Sarah Bridgland

For The Bridge That Connects, Sarah invites participants to design and make three-dimensional landscapes that celebrate the past, present and future of Trevor, Froncysyllte, Cefn Mawr, and Chirk. A blend of old and new. Draw, cut out and tear paper to tell stories and describe journeys. Make real and imagined landscapes - what was there? And what could be there and is yet to be discovered?

Sarah Bridgland is an artist living and working in Wales. Her work operates in the space between sculpture and collage, playfully shifting back and forth between two and three dimensions. Her colourful paper works celebrate her love of printed textures and ephemera, combining cut-outs from old magazines and second-hand books with drawn and painted imagery. Snippets of type and glimpses of faded graphics jostle alongside torn edges and accents of glossy enamel paint - a blend of old and new. Each piece is a constructed history, as time is rearranged and we are invited to re-experience the past in an entirely new way.

Sarah has an MA in printmaking from the Royal College of Art. Upon graduation she was selected to take part in Bloomberg New Contemporaries. She has exhibited widely and her works are held in many private and public collections including the West Collection and Philbrook Museum of Art. Alongside her practice, Sarah has run workshops in many different learning environments, from early years workshops through to family programmes and adult learning. Previous clients include the V&A Museum, Art on the Underground, Manchester Art Gallery and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
